Eggers, Fred W.Fred W. Eggers, 70, of Danbury, loving husband of Barbara Stauder, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Regional Hospice of Danbury after a courageous battle with cancer.Fred was born on November 25, 1946 in New York, NY, and lived in Rego Park, NY; a son of Fred and Elizabeth (Haupt) Eggers. Fred moved to North White Plains, NY during his grade school years where he attended Valhalla schools. He joined the Air Force and served for four years as an aviation mechanic until his honorable discharge in 1970. He attended Westchester Community College receiving an Associate's degree in Marketing.Fred pursued a career as a lab technician and worked for Union Carbide/Praxair in Tarrytown, NY for 23 years. While there, he met his wife, Barbara. After his retirement from Praxair, he continued in that capacity for several companies in the Danbury area until he permanently retired. Fred and Barbara have resided in Danbury since 1983. Fred enjoyed many outdoor hobbies including skiing, running, biking and hiking, as well as boating and water skiing on Candlewood Lake. He especially loved gardening and could always be found outside caring for his vegetables, fruits, flowers and shrubs. He was an avid reader, but aviation was always his passion. Fred built and flew radio control model airplanes all through his life and especially enjoyed this during his retirement.He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Barbara Williams; and his brother Bob Eggers. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, as well as his three children, Shawn Eggers (Sarah) and their children Riley and Renee, Christian Eggers (Simone) and Elissa Eggers. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He had a great sense of humor and made life the most fun it could possibly be earning him the nickname "Fun Fred."The family wishes to especially thank the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at the Praxair Cancer Center that provided Fred such loving care and support during his long illness. They would also like to thank the nurses and staff at the Regional Hospice and Home Care of Danbury for their kindness and care for Fred and the family during his final days.A Memorial Mass will be held at a date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Gregory the Great Church or St. Gregory the Great School, Danbury, CT.Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
