Frederick D. DeckFrederick "Fred" D. Deck passed away quietly on November 24, 2014 after suffering from complications related to a stroke the week before. He was born on November 6, 1937 to Frederick T. and Jean Hilt Deck. Fred married his loving wife Arlene Budreau Halsema Deck on May 13, 2011, she survives. Also surviving are his daughters, Sabrina Hinkle (husband Kurt) and Sara Draper, his stepchildren Mark Halsema, Susan Alt (husband Ron) and Karen Lucas (companion Don Keener), 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, a brother Phil Deck and a sister Judy Striegel. He was preceded in death by his son Eric and his parents.Fred graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1956. He enlisted in the Navy on September 6, 1956 and served until September 2, 1960. He was on a destroyer escort in the Navy. After serving in the Navy, Fred worked at Fairfield until his retirement in 1997. Unable to sit still, he then went on to work at Purdue at Ford Dining Court until 2013. He loved to hunt and fish with his best friend Dick Haverkamp. He enjoyed painting as well as making Chili and Bread Pudding and cutting noodles for his wife. He was active in the American Legion Post 492, 40 & 8 and a lifetime member of
VFW Post 1154 and enjoyed spending time with his fellow Veterans. He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ where he enjoyed the fellowship and Sunday school. Above all, time with his grandchildren and his beloved dog Dave who made his world go round.His family welcomes you to celebrate his life in a visitation service from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2014 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 1526 S. 18th St., Lafayette. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 29th at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Pastor T. J. Jenney officiating. Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
