Frederick S. Roberts, Sr.Funeral Services for Frederick Shelby Roberts, Sr. 93, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00AM Thursday, February 2, 2017 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Rev. Frank Coens officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Calhoun.Frederick Shelby Roberts, Sr., was born on May 29, 1923 in Durant, Oklahoma. He died of Congestive Heart Failure on January 29, 2017. Fred joined the United States Merchant Marines the day after he graduated from high school and served in the Pacific during WWII. He worked for KNOE from March, 1948, until he retired in March, 1988, and only missed 2 days of work in 50 years. His survivors include: daughter, Claudia Long, and sons Frederick Shelby Roberts, Jr. and wife P.J., Michael Roberts and wife Sherri, Richard Roberts and wife, Elisa as well as daughter-in-law Mary Jane Roberts. Brother, Johnny Eugene and wife, Naila and sister, Fayrene Bird. Fred was proud of his seven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He will be remembered as a true gentleman in the best sense of the word: quiet, kind, loving and giving to all who knew him.He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Isabelle Hasselbeck Roberts. Pallbearers will be Ryan Jefferson, Brian Roberts, Colin Roberts, Tim Roberts, Gary Wood, and Bill Schwich.Visitation will be held at 5:00PM until 7:00PM, Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to .
