Freddy was born on April 20, 1964 to Frances and Roscoe Van Winkle in Knoxville Tennessee. He attended Webb School of Knoxville and was a graduate of Bearden High School. He attended East Tennessee State University, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. One of the joys of his life was working as a child actor under Joshua Logan in the Clarence Brown Theater 1976 premier production of the musical "Rip Van Winkle", starring Anthony Quayle. The cast went on the road and appeared at the Kennedy Center and in Philadelphia. Freddy also enjoyed playing Billy Joel style piano, sailing, and collecting ocean liner memorabilia, especially the Titanic and Queen Mary. His prowess at Trivial Pursuit games was impressive.He is survived by brother, John Van Winkle of Chattanooga; and sisters, Elizabeth Farr of Knoxville and Susan Dunn of Richland WA. A private service will be held at a future date on his favorite beach, Hunting Island, SC. Memorials may be given to your local animal shelter in his honor, which would please him very much.
