Frederick William Koberna85, of Carmel, passed away on November 13, 2016. He was born on June 9, 1931 in Chicago, IL, the son of Fred and Bessie Stepina Koberna. Fred was a graduate of Morgan Park Military Academy and Michigan State University. Fred was a veteran of the US
Army having served in artillery in 1953 and was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant in 1955. Fred and Arlene Sidlo were married on April 13, 1957.Fred became General Manager of three meat packing companies. In 1989, Fred retired as Manager of the Meat Machinery division of Urschel Laboratories.Fred was actively involved and a member of many community organizations such as; Carmel American Legion and the Carmel Golden K Kiwanis Club. Also, he was a member of the Hamilton Masonic Lodge, Murat Shriners,
Elks Club of Noblesville and MOAA. Fred was also a member of Central Indiana Woodworkers. He managed the Kiwanis Woodshop at Janus Developmental Services in Noblesville.In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a sister, Libbie Krivanek.Survivors include his loving wife, Arlene; children, Fred (Ann) Koberna Jr, Janet (Rusty) Skoog and Susan (Mike) Natoli; grandchildren, Kaylyn and Trenton Koberna, Lauren and Mike (Moira Vekovic) Skoog.Family and friends will gather on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 10 a.m. in St. Mark's United Methodist Church, of which Fred was a member, and where the Celebration of Life Service will begin at 12 noon.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be given to the Golden K Kiwanis Club Foundation, 15120 Count Fleet Court, Carmel, IN 46032 or St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 4789 E. 126th Street, Carmel 46033.
