Freeman Sweet was born on February 4, 1923 in Many, to the union of the late Buck Sweet and Irene Joseph Young. Freeman was born and raised in Many, under the supervision of Buck and Myrties Sweet. He later relocated to DeRidder. He passed away on Oct. 22, 2016.In 1960, a daughter, Sheralyn Banks, was born to Freeman Sweet and Laura (Banks) Williams. In 1974 Freeman married the love of his life, Idell Mamett Sweet. They raised a special son, Emery Taylor.Freeman Sweet retired from Crosby Chemical/Westvaco in DeRidderin 1988 after 32 years of service as a truck loader.Freeman joined and became a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in DeRidder later in life under the leadership of Pastor George Harris and served until he relocated to Spring, Texas in 2007. Freeman was baptized at an early age.Preceded in death by his dedicated wife, Idell Sweet; parents, Buck and Myrtis Sweet andIrene Young Wright; brothers, Dave Sweet, V. O. Sweet and Charles (Bobby) Sweet, Sr.;and one sister, Laura Brown.Survivors left to cherish his memory: daughter, Sheralyn Riggins (Marvin) of Spring; special son, Emery Taylor of DeRidder; grandchildren: Relando Williams (Fabiola) of Tomball, Texas, Sherica Silas of DeRidder, Alaysia, E'moni and E'mari Taylor, all o DeRidder, and one great-grandchild, Shi'yannah Harris of DeRidder; sisters, Imogene Sweet and Marie Sweet Attuquayefio of Dallas, Texas, and one brother, Abe Gene Sweet of Monroe; a host of nieces and nephews; one godchild, Jean Brasil ofDeRidder, and special friend, Richard Moore (Datron).Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in DeRidder. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., also at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Beauregard Cemetery.Services are under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.
