Gabriel David-Michael Russell, "Gabe," was born on March 21, 2013, to Nicole Brady and David Russell. Gabriel died on Nov. 6, 2016, ,at home and in the arms of his parents. For the better part of two years, Gabe was able to be himself - an artist, a trampoline-jumping gold medalist, a world class "nuggler" and a kind and loving old soul that always had a smile and a hand to hold for anyone that he felt needed it.In November 2015, Gabriel was diagnosed with an untreatable and aggressive brain cancer. He far surpassed the abilities of his favorite superheroes and proved he could do things doctors thought impossible. Gabe not only survived, but lived life, through two craniotomies and eight tumors. One of Gabe's last requests was to "rescue" children who were also sick. His request was honored in some big ways and it's likely he will, posthumously, save the lives of future children.Human language is woefully inadequate when it comes to the story of who Gabe was and how special he was and will continue to be in the lives of those who knew him and the lives of those yet to be born.A public memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Radisson at Lackawanna Station hotel, Scranton, followed by a private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at www.youcaring.com/givegabehope or to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. The family plans to further Gabe's legacy by creating a charity in his name, guided by his spirit full of love, kindness, acceptance and tolerance.Arrangements by Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 3908 Birney Ave., Scranton.
