Gary Douglas DerrickGary Douglas Derrick passed away peacefully on October 28, 2016 at the age of 76. He was born on October 13, 1940 in Salt Lake City to Douglas Peterson Derrick and Afton Whittaker Derrick. He graduated from Olympus High School in 1959. After his first year at the University of Utah, Gary joined the Air Force Reserves in July 1961 and was called to active duty during the Cuban Crisis and was Honorably Discharged in June 1966. Gary married Diane VanOrman on April 3, 1964 and remained married for 28 years until Diane's death in December 1992.Gary worked in the moving and storage industry at the beginning of his career in both Salt Lake City and the San Francisco Bay Area. He then fell in love with Real Estate later in his life, working in St. George, UT until retiring. In July 2013, after being diagnosed with IPF, Gary moved to Henderson, NV to be near his daughter, Lisa, and her family. He found a great home and second family at Sunrise Senior Living where one of the things he enjoyed most was teaching Wii Bowling to the other residents.We will miss Gary's humor, charming smile, warmhearted personality and his adoration of children and animals. Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Diane; parents, Doug and Afton Derrick; in-laws, Stan and Afton VanOrman; sister-in-law, Shirlee McLaren; niece, Michelle Olson; nephew, Conan McClaren; and other loving family and close friends.Gary is survived by his daughters Lisa (Shawn) Yahrling and Pyper Frampton; grandchildren Zoe Yahrling, Christi (Paul) Howard and Tony Gayler; great grandchildren Alexcis Howard, Tyler Howard, Ashley Howard, Addison Howard and Jaidin Gayler; sister, Denese (Bill) Beers and brother, Chris (Elizabeth) Derrick; sisters-in-law, Pam Hatch and Terryl Jetter; several nephews and nieces as well as many close friends. We will celebrate Gary's life during two Memorial Services, one to be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 3pm at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St, St. George, UT and the other to be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 1pm at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary, Cemetery and Pet Garden 3115 Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121.In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Gary's name to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation 230 E Ohio Street, Suite 500 Chicago, IL 60611-3201 or
