Gary R. DottererHyde Park - Gary Richard Dotterer passed away at the age of 63 at his home in Hyde Park on Saturday, April 1, 2017 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 3, 1953 in Beacon to Richard and Gertrude (Benziger) Dotterer. He attended Haldane High School and received a B.S. in Art from Ladycliff College.In retirement, he truly enjoyed his love for painting, music, and traveling. Gary was a proud member of the Artists' Collective in Hyde Park where his wonderful paintings were a part of many art shows over the years. He was also an avid animal lover and enjoyed time spent with his beloved cats and dogs. Gary was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, New York Rangers and was never without his beloved tie dye. Gary married the former Nancy Richard on April 23, 1983, and was the proud father of four children.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Cassandra Kassel, and her husband, Matthew Kassel; son, Korey Dotterer, and his wife, Deanna (Robertson) Dotterer; son, Brendan Dotterer, and fiancée, Shannon Woolsey; brother-in-law, Chester Warren; mother-in-law, Beverly Richard; sister-in-law, Diane Richard; brother-in-law, Paul Richard; sister-in-law, Nancy Richard; sister-in-law, Donna Borquist, and brother-in-law, Dana Borquist. He is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Gertrude Dotterer; his step-sister, Bonnie (Dotterer) Warren; and his son, Richard "Ricky" Gustav Dotterer. Visitation will be 4 to 7pm, Tuesday, April 4th at Sweets Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A graveside celebration of his life will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, April 5th at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
