Gary G. BurkeLANCASTER: Gary G. Burke, 77, of Lancaster passed away on Tuesday May 9, 2017 at his residence. He was born on December 20, 1939 in Lancaster. Gary was a graduate of Berne Union class of 1958. He served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne-Screaming Eagles. He was an Ironworker for 35 years, and the last 15 years working with Starbucks.Gary's passion was basketball! He coached the 1991 AAU Girls Basketball National Champions. Gary served as the head coach for the Fairfield Union Girls Basketball team for 18 years and the Canal Winchester High School Girls' Basketball team for 4 years. While at Fairfield Union his team's accomplishments include the 1999 Final Four, and many MSL League Championships. He was inducted in the 2004 Mid Sate League Hall of Fame, and an honorary member of the 2013 Fairfield Union Athletic Hall of Fame. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.Gary is survived by his wife of 52 years Sharon L. Burke; sons Scott (Amy) Burke, Sean Burke; grandchildren Katie, Emily, and Alex Burke and Emma and Abby Burke; sisters Kitten (Bill) Birch and Peggy Gillum; brother Mike (Karen) Anders; many nieces and nephewsHe was preceded in death by his father Joseph "Joe" (Maurada) Burke, mother Georgia Anders, sister Patricia Thomas and brother Patrick Anders.Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday May 13, 2017 at the Fairfield Christian Church with military honors. Visitation will be on Friday May 12, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at the Sheridan Funeral Home and on Saturday May 13 from 11:00a.m. - 1:00p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Burke Youth Basketball Scholarship Fund c/o Bremen Banking Center 521 E. Main St. Lancaster, OH.
