Gary Lee Hamm1952-2016On the 27th of September, 2016, Gary Lee Hamm, a thoughtful and quiet man, passed away unexpectedly in his home. Gary was born on January 10,1952 in Germany to Charles and Hazel Hamm who were stationed there at the pleasure of the US Army. He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Rebecca Ann Hamm; his brother Charles R. Hamm II; sister Kristy Ross; sister-in-law Susan Fogarty; nieces Jessica Jager, Rachel Jager, and Abby Fogarty; and nephews Jonathan Ross and Nathan Jager.Gary, a retired Mercer employee, was a man of many interests. After retirement, he pursued his interests in technology and family history by compiling his family's genealogical history in digital form, making music videos, and researching the World War II military service of his father and father-in-law for submission to the World War II museum in New Orleans. Gary was a devoted husband who always put his wife first and enjoyed spending quiet evenings at home grilling on the patio while listening to Becky and her twin sister Susan laughing about a day spent together. He was also an animal lover, particularly for the lucky cats who found their way to his doorstep and the birds that congregated around his bird feeders. A life-long learner, Gary loved reading history books but also looked to the future and, at heart, imagined himself an astronaut, devouring anything he could read or see about our space programs. He was happiest hosting dinners at home, where he relished teasing his sister or searching out a friend or relative with whom to verbally spar about any topic ranging from politics to his beloved Yankees. Gary will be sorely missed.A private celebration will be held at a later date.
