LAURINBURG — Gary Mitchell "Duck Legs" Johnson, 64, passed away on May 3, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by the Rev. Richard Tyson. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
Gary was born on April 29, 1950 in Bennettsville, S.C., son of the late Huey Clyde Johnson and Edna Sheppard Johnson. He retired from Umicore after many years of dedicated service. He attended the East Laurinburg Baptist Church. He loved hunting, fishing and was a member of the Old Hundred Hunting Club, Morgan Hunting Club and Hamlet Hunting Club. To his family, Gary was an awesome husband, father, grandfather and brother.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter Angela Dawn Johnson and grandson Dallas Wade Dunn.
Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years Zelpha Danford Johnson of their home in Laurinburg, daughters Gerri Michelle Clark and husband Darrell of Laurinburg, Jennifer Sue Dunn and husband William of Hamlet, Amy Johnson-McNeill and husband Shawn of Laurinburg, Erika Michele Johnson of Laurel Hill, and Jessica Nicole Johnson of the home, brothers Jerry W. Johnson and wife Darlene of Laurel Hill and Kenneth H. Johnson of Hamlet, 16 grandchildren: Candice Paige Clark, Casey Denise Clark, Dustin Lee Clark, Jeremy Jacobs, Raylon Jacobs, Michael Johnson, Kristen Locklear, Alison Dunn, Kaylee Dunn, Tristen Hunt, Billy Hunt, Jr, Brianna Odom, Mya Odom, Chayse Odom, Gracie Johnson, and Bryce Odom, nine great-grandchildren: Londyn, Kolt, Jett, Brooklyn, Brinsyn, Bristol, Jayden, Jessie Wade, and Bentley, two special grandchildren Harmony Locklear and Gordan Johnson, his special friend Harry Goodwin, and a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
