Major Gary A.PollardLUCAS: Major Gary A. Pollard, 78, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at his home. He was born on November 21, 1938 in Mansfield, Ohio. He was the son of Charles and Thelma (Banks) Pollard.Gary was a graduate of Lucas High School. He worked at the Ohio State Reformatory for almost 30 years, started as an officer in 1962 and worked his way through the ranks retiring as a Major. Gary was a lover of sports and played semi-pro football for the Clearfork Wheels, was an avid softball player and an Ohio State Buckeye fan. He was a 32nd degree Mason, recently receiving his 50 year award. He was a member of Venus Lodge #152 F & AM and a member of Moose Lodge #341. Gary could be found frequently jogging the country roads of his hometown of Lucas, grilling steaks, mowing and trimming his and his neighbor's yards, laying in the sun, and loved his winters spent in Fort Myers, Florida. Gary was a proud grandparent and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's events. He was known for his outrageous sense of humor.He is survived by his high school sweetheart and love of his life who he married on April 14, 1956, Ruth (Mowers) Pollard; four children, Rick (Marlene) Pollard and Chris (Rhonda) Pollard both of Lucas, Mike (Konda) Pollard of Alpharetta, Georgia and Kim (Mark) Mayer of Lucas; seven grandchildren, Brandi, Chloe, Connor, Karly, Kelsey, Alex and Eli; three great-grandchildren, Mariah, Sydney, and Will; a great-great granddaughter, Kaynlee; and a brother, Lannie Pollard (Dianne). In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Travis Davis; and a stillborn brother.Friends and family may call from 2-5 pm on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street. Rev. Dallas Waggle will officiate the funeral service at 11am on Monday, October 30, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
