Gayle Strickland, 79, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2020 at Christus Spohn Hospital from complications due to diabetes.
She was born January 9, 1941 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Edna and Jack Wilson. She is survived by her former husband, Carl Strickland. We learned recently that she and Carl were married in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1965. Apparently it's true. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
Gayle is survived by her siblings Sue (Wilson) Boyd, Joan (Wilson) Hofer and Jerry Wilson. Her sister Jackye (Wilson) Wilkins and her neice June Hofer preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children Kevin, Roger and Ronnie Strickland; her grandchildren Brittany (Strickland) Ring, Candice (Strickland) Reiter and Remington Strickland.
She is survived by her great grandchildren Brady and Beretta Ring.
She and our extended family lived in Annaville, a neighborhood on the outskirts of Corpus Christi, for most of our lives. Many of us, including Gayle, attended Tuloso-Midway schools and remain loyal Warrior supporters. The Calallan Wildcats remain our fierce rivals. She graduated from Tuloso-Midway High School in 1959.
It is important to note that Corpus Christi is the birthplace of Whataburger. If you aren't from Texas, you won't understand why this is important.
She was a good cook, out of necessity, because we ate a lot. Like her mother and sisters, she loved to sew. During the last few years of her life, she was an accomplished quilter.
She attended many of our football games, baseball games, tennis tournaments and 4H shows. She loved having grandchildren and great grandchildren; they miss "Memee".
A memorial service to remember her life will be held in Corpus Christi:
