Gaylen Dean SemogradRedding, CA1957 - 2017Gaylen Dean Semograd, 59, died at his home in Redding, California, on July 9th, 2017.Dean was born on December 8th, 1957, in Kamloops, British Columbia, to Gaylen and Marilyn Semograd. He was the eldest of two children. Growing up in Canada, he loved most outdoor winter sports, including snowmobiling and skiing. He also played soccer and the accordion. He attended Kamloops Senior Secondary High School, where he graduated in 1975.After high school, Dean moved to Merced, California, to attend college and live with his mom, who he dearly loved and eventually cared for while she was terminally ill. While living in Merced, Dean enrolled in California State University at Fresno and graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology. After graduating, Dean was recruited by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) as a Service Planning Representative in Redding. At PG&E, Dean received promotions and many awards and was also an active member of the Pacific Service Employee's Association, serving on the board of directors for several years. Dean met many cherished, life-long friends at PG&E. Many still, to this day, refer to him as "the best boss ever!"Throughout Dean's life, he enjoyed scuba diving, camping, and golf – even hitting a hole in one on the 11th hole at the Plumas Pines Golf Course in Graeagle. Dean had the greenest of thumbs. He was an avid ham radio enthusiast and was cofounder of the Oscar Kilo DX Group. He loved cigars and taking his granddog, Roxy, for car rides and teaching her to "dance" for treats. He will especially be remembered for his tenacity and his great sense of humor. Dean is survived by his daughter, Sidney (Danny) Miller, of Redding; son, Andrew Semograd, of Sacramento; and brother, Wade (Georgina) Semograd, of Calgary, Alberta; nephews, London Semograd and Charles Wingert, and nieces, Meryl-lyn Semograd and Mary Gerdts. Dean also leaves behind aunts and uncles. His parents, Gaylen and Marilyn, preceded him in death.A celebration of life in Dean's honor will be held Saturday, August 5th, 2017 in Redding, California, at C.R.
