Gene Albert GoddardAug. 12, 1929 - Nov. 26, 2016MISHAWAKA - Gene Albert Goddard, 87, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Mishawaka.Gene was born on August 12, 1929 in Mishawaka. On May 20, 1950 he married the former Betty Termont; she preceded him in death on January 29, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Irma Goddard Graveel; a son, Rick Goddard; a sister, Evelyn Fuller; brother, Bob Graveel and great-grandson, Nicholas.Surviving are a daughter, Karen (Greg) Bock of Mishawaka; daughter-in-law, Pam (Jim) Goddard-Dunfee of Elkhart; sister, Betty Bobson of Elkhart; four grandchildren, Stacy (Jeff) Vervynckt of Osceola, Jeff (Amber) Goddard of Granger, Brian (Melissa) Bock of Fishers, IN and David (Samantha) Bock of Fishers, IN; and great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jaden, Nathan, Blake, Ema, Brayden, Jaxson, Declan, Madilyn and Ella.Gene is a Mishawaka High School Alumni (class of 1947). Gene worked for the Mishawaka Fire Department for 27 years as a Fire Fighter, Fire Chief and Inspector and also as State Fire Marshal, retiring in 1986. He was Chairman of the Board of Indiana Fire Fighters Association Inc. and was instrumental in the founding of the Survive Alive House. He was also instrumental in bringing a very special Memorial exhibit that was on display at Beutter Park honoring firefighters lost in the World Trade Center attacks in New York. Gene was also the owner/operator of Goddard's Belgian Mustard Company for many years. There has never been a Belgian mustard that could compare to Gene's. He was a member of the BK Club and the DeAmici's Club and was an avid Cubs fan and a Notre Dame fan, organizing many fun filled bus trips to Notre Dame away games. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 30 from 1 to 7 p.m. and Thursday, December 1 from 10 to 11 a.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka.
