Gene Jorgensen passed away unexpectedly on September 15, 2012. A lifelong Alaskan, he was born on July 23 and raised in Juneau where he lived until his passing. A Vietnam Veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from January 1962 to April 1965 and received an honorable discharge. He worked on a tugboat for a number of years before becoming a Longshoreman until he retired in 2006. He and Debbie were married on July 2, 1976 and had 2 daughters. An avid fisherman, his other hobbies included gold panning, hiking, woodworking and spending time with family and friends. Gene will be missed by many, he had a generous soul, he loved talking to people everywhere he went and would lend a hand whenever he could. He was also an animal lover and could often be found feeding them. He is survived by his wife Debbie, his daughters Natalie Jorgensen (Wil Hitchens), Alexis Cropley (Sean), grandson Darin Jorgensen and granddaughter Alana Cropley, all of Juneau, his brother George of San Francisco, his brother Dan (Sue) of Juneau and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Tlingit & Haida Community Center by Salmon Creek on Thursday Sept 27th from 2pm to 5pm. Friends and Family are welcome.
