Gene L. StanberyZANESVILLE: Gene L. Stanbery, 87, of Zanesville, died at 7:53 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 at his home. He was born on April 10, 1926 in Zanesville, Ohio a son of the late Harry and Hazel Huhn Stanbery. He was a World War II Navy veteran serving from 1944-1946. He was formerly employed at PP&G and he retired from Armco Steel. He was an outstanding baseball player, golfer, and bowler.He is survived by his wife of 66 years Martha Strouse Stanbery of the home; one daughter Susan (Tom) Brock; one son Steven (Rita) Stanbery; five grandchildren Tammy, Ted, Stefanie, Patrick, and Jenna; eight great-grandchildren Ryan, Sarah, Erin, Katlyne, Logan, Leslie, Layne, and Luke; one sister Grayce Burkart.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Warren Stanbery.Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home, 5765 Gladstone Drive in White Cottage. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the funeral home with Rev. Steve Dupler and Chaplain William Harris officiating. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park where Zanesville VFW Post #1058 will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care.
