Our hearts are deeply saddened by the passing of our loved one but we know that "All things work together for the good of them that love the Lord". After enduring her illness like a brave soldier, the Lord knew she could bear no more. On Wednesday, February 26, 2020, God allowed the angel of death to come seal the lips and eyes of our dearly beloved Genevieve Marie LaFleur.
"Genie" as she was affectionately known, was born on January 11, 1988 in Philadelphia, Pa. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Gabriel and Marie(Baptiste) LaFleur. She was educated in the public schools of Philadelphia County where she met her high school sweetheart Leonard "Leo" Slater, and welcomed two daughters into this world. She then moved to South Carolina, alongside the father of her children, to provide a more steady life for her children. Although she was a teen mom, she fought through to graduate high school and receive her Bachelor's degree in Nursing. During this time, she was united in marriage to Leo and was blessed with four more children. She then accepted employment at McLeod Regional Medical Center where she worked up until she was deemed unable to return to work due to her illness.
Genie was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Gabriel and Marie LaFleur, a loving son, Leonard Slater III, and a father-in-law, Leonard Slater Sr.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her loving husband, Leonard Slater Jr; four daughters, Adrian, Ariel, Madison, and Olivia Slater; a son, Kai Slater; a mother-in-law, Barbara Slater; three brother-in-laws, eight sisters-in-laws, forty-two nieces and nephews; a host of their relatives and friends.
