Genis P. Henderson, 67, passed away on January 24, 2017 at Nacogdoches Medical Center. She was born on March 30, 1949 in Benton, Arkansas to parents Eugene and Ethel Parsons. A Memorial Service will be held on February 3, 2017 at 2:00 pm at New Hope Church located at 5301 E. Main Street, Nacogdoches, Texas. A private inurnment will follow on a later date at Fairview Cemetery. Genis was one amazing woman! When you think of her you cannot help but see what a survivor she was. Every challenge that faced her she set her mind to overcome and she did. After high school graduation she enlisted in the US Army and served her country as an Army nurse for 2 years. Upon her return to civilian life she attended and graduated Massey Business School. She earned her CDL license, and later owned several businesses and did book keeping for several businesses including Nacogdoches Answering Service. In 1999, she met James Henderson and the following year they married. They enjoyed 17 years together. Genis loved to work outside and especially "weed eat" and grow her flowers. She took two cruises to Jamaica with her family and loved to find the casino for a little extra fun. Genis was a cancer survivor overcoming ovarian cancer, breast cancer, and lung cancer. She was definitely a fighter. Her greatest love was spending time with her children and grandchildren. They will miss her "pepper steak" and "spaghetti". When she had free time you might find her reading or watching good old westerns like Gun Smoke. Calamity Jane and Ms. Kitty were her favorite heroes! Genis was the spark that kept her family going. She will be greatly missed. Genis is survived by her husband, James Henderson; son, Joe Stone and wife, Laura; daughter, Kim Freeman and husband Tim; grandchildren, Little Joe Stone and wife Macee, Jacob Stone, Brandon Blanton and Jessica Blanton; two great grandchildren, and a host of extended family.
