George E. Farrell II OneontaGeorge E Farrell II, 86, of Oneonta, died on Thursday, February 16, 2017 in Oneonta. George was born on August 6, 1930 in Far Rockaway, NY. He graduated from St. Columba High School in Schenectady, NY. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the
US Navy and served two years. In 1953 he graduated from Binghamton State Hospital School of Nursing with an RN. He was commissioned as an Air Force Nurse in 1956. During his 20 years in the service, he completed a tour of duty in Vietnam. He completed a bachelor's degree in nursing at Syracuse University in 1962 and a master's degree in nursing at the University of Colorado in 1969. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of Lt. Colonel in 1976. After retiring from the Air Force, George was an assistant professor for the School of Nursing at the University of Southern Mississippi. He completed his long and varied career as the Director of Continuing Education at AO Fox Hospital in Oneonta.George was a faithful and active parishioner of St Mary's faith community. He served as a lector, a Eucharistic minister, a director of RCIA, and he taught the altar servers for many years. George loved to travel, to read, and to tell great stories. Above all his loved his family.George is survived by Barbara (Fink), his wife of 62 years; his 5 children, George R Farrell of Pensacola Beach, FL, Suzanne Murphy (David) of Oneonta, NY, Christopher Farrell (Carlos) of Brooklyn, NY, Sean Farrell (Mary Beth) of Hattiesburg, MS, and Kevin Farrell of Pearl, MS; granddaughter Pamela Cherry, of St Paul, MN; sister Gertrude Goyette (Maurice) of Scotia, NY; sisters-in-law Frances Alexander (Bud) and Mary Dutcher of Binghamton, NY; brother-in-law Edward Fink (Cathy) of Binghamton, NY; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Gertrude Farrell; his in-laws Robert and Helen Fink; his daughter-in-law Nana (Sasser) Farrell; his sister Mary Nuzback; his brothers-in-law John Nuzback, William Fink, and Don Dutcher; and his sister-in-law Helen Nixon.Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lester R Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St, Oneonta NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 10 am at St Mary's Church, 39 Walnut St, Oneonta, NY. A reception will follow in the Parish Center immediately following the Mass.Burial will take place in the spring at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
