George I. WennerbergHalf Moon Bay, CAGeorge Iver Wennerberg, 65, of Half Moon Bay, CA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. George was born on October 12, 1951, in Des Moines. He was the second oldest of four children and the only son of George and Dolores Wenn-erberg.George graduated from Saydel High School in 1969. He held a Masters Degree in Rehab Counseling from the University of Iowa and a second Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of California, Berkley. He worked most recently as a therapist/case manager at North County Mental Health, Mike Nevin Health Center, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Division in Daly City, CA.George was a loving and devoted son, brother, and friend. We will never forget his beautiful brown eyes, warm baritone voice, big heart, or happy and caring smile. He will be deeply missed for his sense of humor, unwavering optimism, and thoughtful generosity. George loved telling a good story and hosted inimitable dinner parties for his loved ones. He looked forward to the Iowa Hawkeyes and San Francisco 49ers football games and the Golden State Warriors basketball games in the fall and winter seasons.He was a very sensitive and compassionate person whom everyone loved. Once during childhood, George left his good friend "Brownie" a May basket on May Day. Later in life, Brownie called the family home to reminisce about George and said, "who else but George would bring me a May basket."This was the sweet spirit that George displayed throughout his life. He was a beautiful human being with a pure and joyful heart.He was preceded in death by his father George in 1993. He is survived by his beloved mother Dolores of Des Moines; sisters Carolyn Finken (Glen) Dove of Olathe, KS, Cindee (Pete) Christensen of Cupertino, CA, and Sandee Wennerberg of Iowa City; nephews Eric Christensen of Chevy Chase, MD, and Nicholas Christensen of San Jose, CA; nieces Sarah (Bex) Finken Hernandez of Chicago, IL, Emily (Carlos) Salas of Colorado Springs, CO, and Adrienne ("Addie") Dove of Orlando, FL; numerous special friends and loved ones.Memorial donations may be made to the Ocular Melanoma Foundation.
