George K. Raad1924 - 2016George Khalil Raad was born on August 14, 1924 in Jerusalem, Palestine to Khalil Raad of Bhamdoun, Lebanon and Annie Muller of Basil, Switzerland. He died peacefully with his family on October 2, 2016 in Boise, Idaho at the age of 92. After graduating from St. George's School in Jerusalem, George emigrated to the U.S. in 1947 to study at the University of California, Berkeley where he earned a master's degree in Architecture. While at Berkeley, George was an active member of International House and continued his involvement as a board member into the latter years of his life. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen and settled in San Francisco where he eventually started his own architecture firm.George met Dr. Lorraine Couture of Winnipeg, Canada in 1958 through mutual friends and the couple were soon married at the Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi in the North Beach district of San Francisco. They started their family in San Francisco and lived there happily until joining their son's family in Boise, Idaho in 2014. George was an avid photographer, tennis player, and runner. His love for running led him to volunteer for many years in the San Francisco Bay to Breakers running race. He also enjoyed spending time at Lake Tahoe and Manzanillo, Mexico where he forged many lasting friendships.George is survived by his wife, Lorraine; daughter, Maureen; son, George; daughter-in-law, Kelly; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Ellen. He will be greatly missed by his family and many dear friends who valued his exquisite sense of humor and readiness to laugh as well as his artful conversation and storytelling.
