This obituary is administered by:

FAIRBORN — George Thomas March, age 85, went home to be with the Lord on July 22, 2016 while in residence at Hillspring of Springboro care facility. He was a longtime resident of Fairborn, Ohio. George was born on July 27, 1930 in Wilburton, Oklahoma. He was the oldest of five children born to George W. "Scotty" March and Cecile (Caselman) March. He enlisted in the U.S. armed forces in 1947 at the age of 17, which required his mother's signature. Months after enlisting, he made the transition to the U.S. Air Force when the Air Force separated into its own branch of the military. He served his country stateside and overseas rising in rank to Staff Sergeant until his honorable discharge in August 1968. Shortly thereafter, he was employed as a security guard by General Motor where he continued to work until his retirement in 1991. In 1953, while stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, he met Opal Conn who became his wife in November 1953. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage before her passing in September 2010. George's smile and laughter along with his easy going, loving and generous ways, endeared him to many. He never knew a stranger, always willing to laugh and talk with those he met. George gave of himself sacrificially and put others first. In his younger years, while visiting a lake he saved a drowning man from certain death without thought of danger to his self. His in-laws readily embraced him as a son, a brother and friend and he returned to them his time, love and generosity. He tremendously enjoyed his travelling adventures to southern states with his brother in law, Raymond Conn to pick-up truckloads of watermelons, peaches and tomatoes to bring them North. His interests included bowling, welding, fishing, metal detecting and travelling. He was proud of and loved all of his family, but the arrival of his first great granddaughter Kaelyn was an especially joyful time for him, his beaming smiles will be remembered always. His joy continued with the birth of his second and third great granddaughters, Aviane and Teagan. They all were the light of his life and he loved them deeply. He is remembered with love by his son George March, Jr. of Springboro, Ohio; daughters Karen Hawkins of Fairborn and Barbara March of Kettering; son Stephen and daughter in law Samantha March of West Carrollton; granddaughter Sara Hawkins and three great granddaughters, Kaelyn, Aviane and Teagan of Kettering; brother Bobby March of Maryland; sister Rita Ann Shank of Oklahoma; sister Margaret and brother in law Walt Newsom of Oklahoma; sister in laws Clarice March of Oklahoma and Julia Creech of Amston, CT; cousins, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Opal (Conn) March and his brother Billy Jack March formerly of Oklahoma. Friends may call on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Burcham Jennings Funeral Home, 119 E. Main St. Fairborn, Ohio 11:00AM to 12:00PM (Noon). Funeral services will follow at 12:00PM (Noon). Interment will be at Byron Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.BurchamJennings.com.
