George J. PolingLANCASTER: George passed away May 13, 2017, at the Pickering House. George was born on May 25th, 1930 in Logan, OH. The son of the late George D. and Flora M. (Chilcoat) Poling. He was raised by his late grandparents, John and Ellie Chilcoat. George is survived by his three sons that he loved dearly. Doug of Michigan, Tim and Anita of Elyria, Ohio, and Steve and Marci of Lancaster; companion, Babe; one granddaughter, Holly, of Cincinnati; three grandsons, Randy and Maria, Chris and Nikki and Jon, all of Lancaster; three great grandchildren, Harper, Hannah, and Maddie Poling all of Lancaster. After high school (Buchtel-York) of Buchtel, Ohio George served four years in the U.S. Navy. He then worked at Anchor Hocking Plant 2. George then moved on to the U.S. Post Office where he liked carrying mail and serving the public. He never went to work without a pressed shirt and shined shoes, some called him "Shiney Shoes" at work. George was a member of First Methodist Church of Lancaster. He was a life member of NALC Branch 340, a life member of V.F.W. 1380, a member of Anglers Paradise Lake Club, and a member of Olivedale. George enjoyed deer hunting, mushroom hunting, fishing, and was an avid bowler who loved his family and friends. He was loved and will be missed. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 30th, 2017 at 11AM at the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Cheryl Foulk officiating. Friends may visit on Monday, May 29th, from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial is to follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to FairHope Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. The Pickering House of Lancaster, Ohio.
