George Robinson Oscar, Jr. (Robin) of Clarkesville, GA passed away at his home on June 29th, 2023 at the age of 84. He was born in Beloit, WI on January 31, 1939 to George Robinson Oscar and Caryl Coughlin Oscar. He received a Bachelors degree from Tufts University where he met his future wife Sandra Tullis and became a member of the ΔΤΔ fraternity. He and Sandra were married after graduating in 1961.
Robin spent his working life in corporate management before starting his own business consulting company GRO Associates. He was a life long athlete, competing in triathlons, marathons, as well as kayak and canoe racing. He and his race partner won the 100 mile Helen to Atlanta canoe race several years in a row. Later, he competed in endurance horse racing. After retiring from competition, he became a judge for the United States Federation Equestrian Internationale.
He was passionate about music and he spent 25 years singing along with his wife in the Piedmont University Chorale and the Sautee Community Chorale -- as well as appearing in many community theater musical productions over the years.
Robin was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his loving wife Sandy, their three children: George Robinson Oscar, III or Chattanooga, TN, Peter Nels Oscar of Clarkesville, GA, and Kirsten Oscar Smith of Cleveland, GA, along with eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, six brothers and sisters, and many nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by them all.
A celebration of his life is planned for his family later in July. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Friends of the Arts at Piedmont University: P.O. Box 429 Demorest, GA 30535 or online at https://www.piedmont.edu/about-piedmont/fine-arts-piedmont/friends-of-the-arts/
