G. Bryan ShelbyIndianapolis, INGeorge Bryan Shelby passed away on December 19, 2016, at his home in Indianapolis, Indiana, in the company of his loving wife, Mary Parsigian. Mr. Shelby had suffered from Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, a genetic illness that usually results in serious lung or liver disease.Mr. Shelby was born on April 2, 1948, in San Francisco, California, to George William and Marjorie Caldwell Shelby. The family moved to Ohio, then Indiana in the early. (1950s or '50s.).Mr. Shelby graduated from Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in June of 1966. He then attended
Indiana University and San Francisco State University. He completed his education at San Diego State University. He was a member of the
United States Navy from 1968 to 1972.Mr. Shelby spent most of his adult life in the Port Huron, Michigan, area. His career was primarily in the food and food service industry. He worked for Dole Fruit, managed a series of restaurants, including Macy's Restaurants, owned Blue Water Paper & Chemical Company, restaurant suppliers, and owned and operated the Main Street Deli in Port Huron.Mr. Shelby was devoted to his son, George Bryan Shelby II. He coached many of his son's athletic teams and served as president of the PTA at Keewahdin Elementary School.Mr. Shelby's favorite hobby was acting. He was a member of the Port Huron Civic Theater both as an actor and as treasurer of the organization. His favorite role was as Albert Soady in Escanaba in da Moonlight. He was an avid animal lover, having had many pets over his lifetime.He will be remembered by all for his sincere warmth, humor, enjoyment of scotch, and determination to live.Mr. Shelby is survived by his wife, Mary Parsigian; his son, George Bryan II; his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Kathleen Shelby; stepdaughters, Jeanifer Parsigian and Taylor Parsigian; nieces, Jennifer Scott, Erica Subler, Haley Shelby, and Jacob Shelby; two great-nieces and six loving cousin families.There will be a gathering from 1-4 PM Saturday, January 7 at the Vintage Tavern in Port Huron to remember and celebrate Bryan's life.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Emma Jean Fund c/o Stock Yards Bank and Trust, 6840 Lake Plaza Drive Indianapolis, IN 46220. Smith Family Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
