Msgr. George EmmettSindik1920-2016Monsignor George Emmett Sindik, 96 of Pensacola, FL, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016.Monsignor Sindik was born on July 1, 1920 in Mobile, AL the oldest of ten children born to Emmett G. Sindik and Anita Moll Sindik. He joined the
U.S. Air Force in 1941 as a flight surgeon's assistant. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama and was honored to be a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Monsignor worked for a time as a Radio Broadcaster when he answered the call to be a Catholic Priest. He studied philosophy and theology at St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman, AL; St. Mary Seminary in Kentucky and St. Mary Seminary Roland Park in Baltimore, MD. He was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood on May 7, 1959 by the Most Reverend T.J. Toolen at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Mobile, AL. He faithfully served the People of God for over 50 years holding leadership positions in the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee and Pastoral Positions in several parishes. He served as a member of the College of Consultors, Chancellor of the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, Episcopal Vicar, Vicar Forane of the Northwest Deanery, and served on many commissions and boards. He served with commendation in many Pastoral Assignments both as a Parochial Vicar and Pastor. He was always grateful for his many years as Pastor of St. Paul Catholic Parish in Pensacola where he served for 28 years. He retired as Pastor of St. Paul Parish in 2000 but continued to assist and make himself available for priestly ministry at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Pensacola and other parishes in the surrounding area.Msgr. Sindik is preceded in death by his father, Emmett G. Sindik and mother, Anita Moll Sindik; his brothers, John Sindik and Emmett Sindik; sisters, Ann Pond, Elizabeth Sindik, Gloria McDonald and Catherine Schiavoni.Msgr. Sindik is survived by his sisters, Mary Grace Galle and Angela Baker and brother, Reverend Matthew A. Sindik of the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama. The body of Msgr. Sindik will be received on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart at 6:00pm immediately followed by a special Evening Prayer, visitation and viewing from 6:15pm-8:00pm.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00am Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Pensacola, FL with the Most Reverend Gregory L. Parkes and the priests of the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee con-celebrating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery off of 12th Avenue.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic Foundation of Northwest Florida and/or Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida.Express your condolences in our guestbook at
