George C. SipeYorkGeorge C. Sipe, 96, passed away peacefully at Senior Commons on December 11, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy E. (Hoffman) Sipe. He was born on June 8, 1919, on a little farm in the Highmount area of York County. He was the son of the late Harvey and Florence (Poff) Sipe.George was a veteran of
WWII, serving under General George Patton in the Tank Destroyer Division in the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the
Purple Heart.He was a member of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ and a lifetime member of the Hawk's Gunning Club. He was an avid gardener and known to his family and friends as "the original organic gardener".George is survived by two sons, George C. Sipe, Jr. and his wife Carol of York, and Michael W. Sipe and his wife Jennifer of Elk Grove, Calif.; three grandchildren, Mark Sipe of York, Traci Zeigler and her companion Gerald Groft of Hanover, and Melissa Wade and her husband Justin of Elk Grove, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren, Taylan Zeigler, Georgia Wade and Berkeley Wade. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York, with a viewing at 10 a.m. Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. Danielle E. Neff.
