George Walter Burris 1937 - 2016George Walter Burris, 79, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday November 9, 2016. He was born on June 20, 1937 in Springfield to Edward and Lena Burris. George married Shelba Withrow in Springfield on August 20, 1960 and she survives. Mr. Burris is also survived by one daughter Rhonda Wilson and one son Darren Burris both of Springfield, three grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother John Burris, one step-sister Bonnie (Jim) Davison and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one great-grandchild Alexandria "Gabby" Doss, three sisters, one brother and his step mother Ethel Burris.George was a US Army Veteran stationed in Alaska and served as a guard at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. After his Military service he joined his father as a second generation family member operating Burris and Son Trucking and retired after thirty years of service. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #71 AF & AM and ANSAR Shrine. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and bowling and he was an avid collector of "everything."A funeral service will be held at 12:30pm on Wednesday November 16, 2016 at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 Koke Mill Road with burial to follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 11:00am until the time of service Wednesday at Bisch West.
