George Warren Schrage, age 70, of Hale passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2016. He was born on May 19, 1945 in Detroit to Harold and Marion Schrage. He served his country in the U.S. Army. After his service, he worked for General Motors as a tool and die journeyman for 37 years. George was a member of VFW Post 7435 of Hale and a fireman at the South Branch Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching racing. He was a volunteer firefighter at the Whittemore Speedway.George is survived by his brothers and sisters, Frank Schrage of Texas, Irene Wheeler of Hale, Avis Schrage of Texas, Tracey Thorn of Florida, Tom Schrage of Texas and Linda Schrage of Big Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Harold D. Schrage Jr.Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 4 at Buresh Funeral Home at 121 S. Washington St., Hale. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 5 at 4 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home Chapel of Hale. Pastor Doug Kennedy will officiate the service. Interment will follow the service at Esmond Evergreen cemetery in Hale. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the South Branch Fire Department in George's name.
