George Wilhelm, age 89, of Kent, Ohio passed away peacefully on May 6, 2023. He was born in Ligonier, Pa., and spent most of his life in the Akron area. Nelson served in the U.S. Air Force and, while stationed in Japan, met Chieko Yajima. They married and had five children. His dear wife, Chieko, passed away in 1970. Nelson is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Georgia, as well his children: Clint Wilhelm, Sherry Wilhelm Keller (husband Neal), Thomas Wilhelm (wife Susan), Lynn Wilhelm Beattie (husband Ray), Dawn Wilhelm Liszkowski (husband Robert); his brother Samuel, sister Sandra, cousin Nyland, grandchildren Nelson Keller (wife Ellie), Brooke Wilhelm, Stuart Keller, Michael Wilhelm, and Chynna Wilhelm, nieces and nephews, all of whom cherished him. He served as pastor in the Evangelical Congregational Church for 47 years, pastoring churches in Bethany, Pa., Youngstown, Ohio, Leavittsburg, Akron, Kent and Delightful, Ohio. George enjoyed his years in the ministry and, even after “retirement,” continued to serve in the pastoral ministry. George will be remembered as a kind-hearted, generous, gracious man with a wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed traveling, being around people and he never met a stranger. Nelson was proud to have served his country, and felt privileged to have served his Lord. A private family ceremony is planned.
