Gerald Charles McBeeJanuary 11, 1928 - September 23, 2017Salem - Gerald passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday morning, September 23 at the age of 89.He was born on January 11, 1928 in Eugene to Charles McBee and Audrey Parkins. He was raised in the Lowell, Oregon area and graduated from Lowell High School. Gerald joined the
U.S. Navy in 1947, and served during the Korean and
Vietnam War retiring after serving 24 years and stationed at numerous Navy bases. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Salem for 20 years. He married Darlene McKeever on September 18, 1949 in Salem. They were married 67 years until her passing in January 2017. Gerald enjoyed hiking and fishing and being outdoors so he became a campground host in the Gold Lake, Waldo Lake and Kiahanie campgrounds in the Willamette National Forest, where he spent 14 summers hosting many friends and families. In 1998, he received a National award as the top campground host. Throughout his life he enjoyed bowling and in his spare time he would often belong to 2-3 bowling leagues and bowl 2-3 times a week where he met and bowled with so many wonderful people.He is survived by his brother Marvin McBee (Melba), his children Kathy Anderson (James), Dennis McBee, Marilyn Lindgren (Brian) and Cynthia Hooker (Stephen), ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.Interment with military honors will take place on Friday, October 27 at 2:00 pm at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd. Portland, Oregon 97086. Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
