Gerald Allen Guthrie, 91, a resident of Sherman, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017. Mr. Guthrie was born on January 21, 1926 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, the son of the late Albert Reed and Flo B. Caswell Guthrie.He was a graduate of Stillwater High, Class of 1943. Gerald entered WW2 in the Navy as a Medical Corpsman and served in the South Pacific, attached to Marine units. After discharge, Gerald attended Oklahoma University, and Kansas City College of Mortuary Science. Gerald married Mary Louise Dampier of Lebanon, Missouri in January of 1949, and was then recalled to serve in the Korean conflict.At the conclusion in 1952, Gerald and his wife moved to Georgetown, Texas, where their only son was born in 1953.Later Gerald entered the pharmaceutical business as a salesman, which brought the family to Sherman where they have lived since 1966. Gerald's first wife died, and Gerald married Kay Wilburn Miller in 1977. Kay passed away in 2001.Gerald is survived by one son, Jay Reed Guthrie and his wife, Paula Gail, of Dallas; his two stepdaughters, Wynon Lett of St Meyers, Florida, and Paulla Bonnell of Phoenix, Arizona; his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with interment to follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July, 27, 2017, at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Breast Cancer Foundation in Gerald's name.The online register can be signed at www.
