Gerald L. Harnish 1923—2016Gerald L. Harnish, 92, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 18, 1923 to Raymond and Carrie (Phillips) Harnish. He married Fern Marie Ferguson on November 11, 1944 in Freeport, IL. He farmed most of his life in the Rock City and Pearl City area. He also worked at Bennett & Hoefer for 11 years. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lena and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Gerald enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was an avid Chicago Cub Fan and a member of the Friendship Club. He is survived by his wife; 2 children; Richard Harnish (Bobbie Eanes) and Debra (Larry) Martin-Bettcher of Freeport, IL, 1 grandchild; Donnie Martin of Denver, CO, sister-in law; Elaine Ferguson. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers; Ivan and Lyle Harnish.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, IL. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, IL. Rev. Art Stees will officiate the services. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Cedarville, IL. A memorial has been established in his memory. Gerald's family would like to thank the caring staff at FHN Hospice.
