Siem, Gerald P. "Jerry"Gerald (Jerry) P. Siem, age 74 of Junction City, WI, died Tuesday evening April 4, 2017 at Columbia St. Mary's hospital in Milwaukee of injuries sustained at his home earlier in the day, while doing what he most enjoyed doing, metal work. Despite the extent of his injuries, Jerry held on until his family could reach his side to say goodbye before passing.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 10, what would have been Jerry's 75th birthday, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1225 Main St., Junction City, WI. Rev. Dr. Timothy Roser will officiate, burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will take place at the church from 9:00 am until time of the service.Jerry was born on April, 10, 1942 in Muskegon, MI to the late Raymond and Violet Siem. He attended grade school in Junction City and graduated in 1960 from P.J. Jacobs high school in Stevens Point. On June 9, 1962 he married the former Doris Mancl in Rudolph, WI and together they raised six children.During his life Jerry held several jobs. He worked at the Nekoosa paper mill from 1961 to 1977, at which time he and Doris took over the family farm, which they operated until 1988. From 1991 until his retirement in 2012, he was a semi driver for Mark's Transportation. Jerry was a certified welder and widely known throughout central Wisconsin for his welding skills. Throughout his working years, even while otherwise employed, he found time to take on welding jobs, including a period of time during the construction of Rainbow Falls in Plover, and even spent some time as a blacksmith. After retirement he continued welding and tinkering with all things metal. He was very creative and a favorite activity was making metal art which he shared with his family and displayed at various locations, including the Riverfront Art Center in Stevens Point.Jerry was a man who loved working with his hands and collecting old machinery and engines as well as tools of all description. There was never a day when he wouldn't be in his garage cutting metal, building something or taking it apart for parts. He never had just one of anything and if anyone needed a tool or parts to fix machinery, or someone to make a part, Jerry was the man to see.Over the years Jerry belonged to a number of Thresherman's Associations, including Plainfield, Rosholt, Rudolph and Edgar. He regularly attended their steam and old engine shows and demonstrated his cedar shingle mill, lath mill and hand cranked snow fence making machine.Jerry liked polka music and in his younger days he and Doris were square dancers. He liked having visitors and never passed up a chance to spend at least a few moments chatting with just about anybody he came across. Family birthday and holiday gatherings or barbecues were events he enjoyed, usually being the first to arrive.Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Ray and Violet Siem, and his only son, Dennis. He is survived by his wife, Doris and children; DeLorma (Dan) Nowicki, Denice (Jim) Dowling, Diane (Paul) Rucinski, Debbie (Wes) Berkholtz, all of Stevens Point , Donna (Rob) Poole, Wausau, and daughter-in-law, Jean Evilsizor-Siem of Almond.
