This obituary is administered by:
UNION GROVE - Gerrie, age 71, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at her home after a courageous and well-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on April 10, 1944 in Kenosha to the now late Bernard and Erna (nee Eppers) Weis. She spent her early childhood on the family farm in the Paris Township. She graduated from Salem Central High School. On August 4, 1962 she married Richard DeGroot at St. Francis Xavier Church in Brighton, Wisconsin. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2012. Gerrie worked 13 years at Plastic Parts Inc. in Union Grove. She was a bartender for 33 years, 11 of those years as co-owner of Bat and Brew sports bar in Kansasville. Most recently, she worked at Old Settlers Inn in Union Grove. Gerrie lived a wonderful and adventurous life with a very close and loving family as well as many great friends. From her many years of being a bartender, she met many people. It seemed like anywhere she went or traveled to she always ran into someone she knew. Some of the activities she enjoyed throughout her life were shooting pool with her girlfriends, playing golf, walking at Bong, volunteering at St. Marys Hospital in Racine and snowmobiling with her family. She was an avid Packer and Brewer fan. Gerrie especially enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in all their sporting events and other activities. She traveled to countries such as Greece, Mexico and other places all over the United States, but her favorite place to go was always Lake Havasu City in Arizona to her sons house with all of her family and friends. Most of all Gerrie loved gardening. She always looked forward to the garden walks and wine sipping sessions with her sisters. Gerrie was a loving and caring person. She will be dearly missed by her husband, Richard; her children, Tammy (Dan) McGrath, Thomas DeGroot (Lisa Clifton)and Jay (Jeanine) DeGroot; her grandchildren, Travis (Heather) McGrath, Erin McGrath (Maxx Daniels), Jessica DeGroot, Jordan DeGroot, Josh DeGroot, Addison Clifton- DeGroot. sisters: Boni (Bill) Maurice, Linda (Dennis) Cole, Diane Kempf, brothers, Ralph (Corrine) Weis, Chris (Dee) Weis, Dan (Marie) Weis, Dean (Tracy) Weis and Tim (Jane) Weis, sister- in-laws: Dar Weis, Sharon Willkomm, and Carol DeGroot, brother-in-laws: George (Jeannette) DeGroot, Jerry (Barb) Phillips, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jack Weis, Niece, Suzette Maurice, brother-in-laws, Jim Kempf and Jim DeGroot, sister-in-laws Judy Phillips and Dee Sadowski. We would like to thank the caring staff of Dr. David Knight at St. Catherines Hospital, Dr. Douglas Evans and staff at Froedert and the Hospice Alliance of Pleasant Prairie for their support and compassionate care they gave Gerrie and her family. We would also like to thank the friends and family who sent cards and took time out to visit our mom during her illness.
