Gerard Boissonneault Obituary
Mar 22, 1934 - Jun 21, 2016
SANFORD - Gerard R. "Dick" Boissonneault, 82, of Sanford, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
Dick was born on March 22, 1934, to Gerard and Josephine (Letendre) Boissonneault in Biddeford where he grew up and attended local schools. In 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served his country for three years. In 1955, he married Angie Lachance and together they raised three children and shared nearly 59 years on marriage until her death in 2014.
Dick was always a hardworking man and took pride in providing for his family. After completing his enlistment in the Marine Corps, he and Angie moved to Connecticut where he was employed for 14 years with Pratt & Whitney before eventually returning to Maine and settling in Sanford. After returning, he owned and operated Dun- Rite Trucking and the Notre Dame Bakery for several years before taking a job in the maintenance department of the Sanford school system where he worked for many years before retiring in 2011.
Dick was an avid sports fan and had been very involved in youth athletics throughout his life. He coached many teams over the years including both junior high and SSYAA football teams and Babe Ruth baseball. He was a big fan of the Sanford High School football team and was very involved in helping to raise the money to erect the field lights at Cobb Stadium. He was also the recipient of a youth leadership award from the Sanford Elks Lodge. Family was always first and foremost in Dick's life. Each summer he and his wife would rent a cottage on the ocean for the family to gather and enjoy spending time together. He always made it a point to attend the activities that his children and grandchildren were involved in and would proudly sit on the sidelines showing his support. Dick was a very attentive and loving husband and when Angie's health began to decline in later years he didn't hesitate to retire so that he could stay home and help to care for her. Dick will be remembered as a kind and loving man who always put the needs of his family before his own. He will be dearly missed.
Dick was preceded in death by: his wife, Angie; by his parents; by a son-in-law, Everett Chadbourne Jr.; and by four siblings, Raymond Boissonneault, Robert Boissonneault, Zenon Boissonneault and Barbara Harmon.
