Geri L. BlackstoneDecember 10, 2016Geri L. Blackstone was born on September 24, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, to John J. and Lily A. Wolf and passed away on December 10, 2016, in Fort Myers, Florida, at the age of 85. Geri graduated Valedictorian from Von Steuben High School, class of 1949. She went on to the University of Illinois, were she graduated as a member of the honor fraternities of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi in 1953, majoring in Spanish, and speaking the language fluently. She fulfilled a lifelong dream of traveling to Spain in 1972, with her husband, Greg.Starting her career as a secretary in 1963, Geri worked her way to the position of Vice President of a graphic arts corporation. That company relocated in 1978, bringing Geri and her husband, Greg, to Fort Myers, Florida. A year later she made a move to become the Administrator for the law office of John B. Fassett, where she enjoyed her work until her retirement in 1996.Geri's life was one of achievement and adventure. She was an accomplished pianist and loved travel and exploration. She was certified in scuba diving at the age of 60 and dove on the Great Barrier Reef at age 66. At the age of 70, she and her daughter, Pam, spent two weeks in Alaska, where, among other adventures, they flew a bush plane to an area to kayak and white water raft. Geri was an avid volunteer at St. Michael Lutheran School, where she was known as the Poetry Lady. Geri always had time for her many friends and met people with a kind word and a smile. She will be greatly missed. In later life, with declining health, Geri and Greg moved to Springwood Court Assisted Living Facility, where they spent their remaining years.Geri is survived by her daughter, Pam (Chip) Few; grandsons Ben (Jaclyn) Few and Luke Few; and her great granddaughters Ava Grace and Olivia June Few. She also is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, David and her husband, Greg.A memorial service, celebrating Geri's life will take place at St. Michael Lutheran Church, located at 3595 Broadway, Fort Myers, FL 33901, on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11 AM.A private family gathering to scatter her ashes, along with those of her husband, Greg, in the Gulf of Mexico, will take place at a future date.
