ARLINGTON HEIGHTS - Gertrude Rettberg was born on May 18, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois to Michael and Catherine (nee Kush) Lukasik. She died peacefully surrounded by three generations of her family on Saturday, October 22, 2016 in Glenview, Illinois. Gertrude married her late husband David after he returned from WWII and moved to Arlington Heights in 1950. She raised a family and lived at their Davis Street home until 2010, when she moved to Luther Village and expanded her wide range of friendships that were always held so dear. One of Gertrude's endearing qualities was her passion for her family, and she enjoyed following the various interests and pursuits of her children and grandchildren; including their friends and families. She was an avid reader and gardener, loved travelling and seeing new places, and enjoyed art and architecture. She enjoyed playing bridge and loved all games that challenge the mind. Enjoying working outside of her home, Gertrude was a store manager in the early days of Woodfield and later she went into banking services at local bank offices. She took great interest in community volunteering, schools, Bible study, history, and brought the family together over meals featuring her astonishing recipes. Gertrude is survived by her children Laura (Gregory) LeVert, Roy Rettberg, Gary (Cathleen) Rettberg, and Thomas (Caren) Rettberg, her grandchildren Colleen LeVert, David LeVert, John (Emily) LeVert, Katherine Rettberg, Susan Rettberg, Jamaica (Michael) Perry, Julian Rettberg, Allen Rettberg, Lee Rettberg, Brianna Rettberg; her great-grandchildren Lillian LeVert, and Emmeline Perry. She was preceded in death by husband of 58 years, David F. Rettberg; her sister, Florence (the late Raymond) Kupjack; and her parents. Visitation is from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights. Prayers will be said Friday, October 28, 2016 at 10:15 am at Glueckert Funeral Home before proceeding to 11:00 am Funeral Mass at St. James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights. Entombment services will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 2501 E. Euclid Ave. in Arlington Heights.
