Gertrude H. Smith, age 104, of Vestal, N.Y., and formerly of Springville, passed away Sunday morning, June 23, 2013 at the UHS Senior Living at Ideal in Endicott, N.Y.She was born on December 17, 1908 the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Etta Mae Sutton Hadsall. Gertrude was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School class of 1928. She worked at Clinks, Gould, and Shields Restaurant in the Meshoppen area. She attended the Memorial Park Baptist Church in Vestal, N.Y.Gertrude is survived by her son J. DeWitt Smith, Jr. of Vestal, NY, her daughter Violet Ziegler and her husband Richard A. of Vestal, NY, her daughter-in-law Sharon Smith of Tunkhannock, PA, and two grandsons. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband J. DeWitt Smith, Sr. (February 20, 1980), her son Denton D. Smith (1999), and her brothers Bertel B. Hadsall, Leo F. Hadsall, and Glenn K. Hadsall.At Gertrude's request there will be a private family graveside service at the Sunnyside Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
