Gilbert "Gibo" Medina, 82, a lifelong resident of Guadalupita, went to be with our Lord in his Heavenly Kingdom on Jan. 27, 2015 at Vida Encantada Nursing home in Las Vegas. He was born on March 14, 1932, in La Mesa to his parents, Blas and Ruperta Medina.He was united in marriage on Oct. 29, 1954, to Lorraine Medina in Mora. Together they were blessed with four children Marcos, Angela, Marsha and Cecilia.Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Blas and Ruperta Medina; wife, Lorraine Medina; son, Marcos Medina; daughter, Angela Romero; grandson, Gilbert C. Bustos; great-granddaughters, Tonya R. Romero and Marivel Ramos; brothers, Gilbert and Joe Medina; sisters, Frances Espinoza, Melita Trammel and Beatrice Duran; and nephew, David Trammel.Gilbert is survived by his daughters, Marsha Bustos and husband, Richard, and Cecilia Medina and husband Billy; grandchildren, Meredith Romero (JB), Phillip Bustos (Francine), Celeste Cupp (Mike), Patricia Vigil (Nichole), Sophia Romero (TJ), Janel Medina (Alfonso), Rick Bustos (Chelsea), Marcos Medina, Leandrea Romero (Robert), Lorraine Johnson (Gustavo), Marchelle Johnson (Josh), great–grandchildren Troy Romero (Jessie), Dennika Bustos, Nicolaus Ramos, Kalob Romero, Enrique Bustos, Savanna Cupp, Dakodah Gandert, Jeremiah Ramos, Tyler Lujan, Nikolas Cupp, Madysen Valdez, Adysen Valdez, Brayden Bustos, Trevor Lujan; great–great-grandchild, Lucianna Romero; brothers, Blas Medina, Alex Medina, Donicio Medina and Domingito Medina; sisters, Rosa Romero and Mercy Cruz; daughter-in-law, Doris Casados; son-in-law, Lorry Lujan, and numerous nieces and nephews.Gilbert was well known and respected in Mora county and surrounding areas. Gilbert was a life-long Catholic and dedicated to his family friends and God. He was a man with great love for his family and believed in working hard to help them and his community. He has touched the lives of so many and will be missed by all who knew him. Gilbert served the community in many capacities. He was the Hermano Mayor for "La Fraternidad Piadosa de Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno" Morada in Guadalupita. He served our country by serving in the United States Army and fighting in the Korean War. He served as a county commissioner for Mora County in the early 1960s. Gilbert was appointed as the first Park Manager of Coyote Creek State Park in Guadalupita by then Governor David Cargo and held the position for 17 years. He worked as a logger all his life and loved being in the mountains. He owned and ran the Coyote Creek bar with his wife Lorraine for 26 years. Gilbert was also well known around these parts as a "pool shark."Rosary Services will be held at 7 p.m. today (Friday) at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Mora. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday also at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church, with Father Paul Grala, SOLT, as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Guadalupita cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: Phillip Bustos, Marcos Medina, Troy Romero, Rick Bustos, Gustavo Ramos and Benjie Torres. Serving as honorary bearers will be all his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.The family would like to thank Julie Martinez, CNA and Alberta his nurse and the rest of the Ambercare staff, also, a special thanks to Pastor Daniel Enriquez.
