Gilbert C. Ortiz, Jr.May 31, 1953 - October 19, 2016Gilbert C. Ortiz, Jr., aka Gilo or Gilito, passed away on October 19, 2016, of natural causes. He was a resident of Grand Junction for 30 years, off and on. Gilbert was born on May 31, 1953, to Gilbert and Patricia (Pacheco) Ortiz, Sr., in Delta, CO. He spent his childhood in Thompson, UT. He attended Grand Junction High School and attended Colorado Mountain College in Leadville, CO, where he earned a degree as a computer technician. In his lifetime, he worked as a construction worker and a lumberjack. He married the love of his life, Memory "Koval" Ortiz, on November 6, 1998, in Springfield, MO. He had four children, Amanda, Mario, Daniel, and Renee from a previous marriage. They lived in various states including Oregon, California, and Colorado. He was a past member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was an altar boy in his younger years. Gilbert enjoyed motorcycles, woodworking, and animals. He also had a love for music. He was a sharp dressed, charismatic man, with a good sense of humor and a strong protector. He is preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Sr.; sister, Gavina, and brothers, Rabon, Corey and Adrian. He is survived by wife, Memory Ortiz of Grand Junction, CO; mother, Patricia Ortiz, of Grand Junction, CO; children, Amanda Madrid, Mario Madrid, Daniel Madrid and Renee Madrid; brothers, Chris Ortiz and Mario Ortiz; sisters, Kathy Lujan, Terry Harshman, Francis Gonseth, and Candy Ortiz; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on October 26, 2016 at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary at 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Memory Ortiz at the Credit Union of Colorado.
