Gilbert Sena, 64, of Rio Rancho, formerly of Las Vegas, passed away into the arms of our Lord and Savior on Friday, June 19, 2015. He was born on March 6, 1951, in Gonzales Ranch to the late Miguel and Casimira Sena. He was preceded in death by his parents: Miguel Sena and Casimira Gonzales Sena; and his brother: Sam Sena Sr. He is survived by his wife of 44 years: Erma Sena; his daughter: Roma Marquez and husband, Carlos, of Rio Rancho, Cassandra Valencia of Rio Rancho and Franchesca Salgado and husband, Monico, of Albuquerque; his seven grandsons: RJ, Christian and Jonathon Valencia, Donovan and Isaiah Marquez, Justin and Jacob Salgado; brothers: Bill Sena of Albuquerque, Eddie Sena and wife, Kathy, of Las Vegas, Al Sena and wife, Vivian, of Albuquerque; sisters: Angela Gonzales and husband, Floyd Sr., of Albuquerque and Ida Castro of Pueblo, Colo. He is also survived by many wonderful nephews, nieces, sisters-in law, brothers-in-law, cousins and friends whom he loved. He graduated from West Las Vegas High School in 1969. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving on the USS Richard E. Kraus. He received his BS degree from New Mexico Highlands University in 1995. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 40 years. He was a lifelong Christian and member of Calvary of Albuquerque. Gilbert had the greatest joy in being ""Papu"" to his seven grandsons. He loved basketball and watching his grandsons play a variety of sportsHe enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. He and his wife had recently moved to Rio Rancho to be close to their three daughters, son-in-laws and grandsons. He brought so much joy and love to our lives. He was the cornerstone of our family and we will forever cherish his advice, his loyalty and dedication to God and his family. A celebration of his life will be held today (Wednesday) at Daniels Funeral Home at 4310 Sara Road SE in Rio Rancho with a viewing from 4 to 6 p.m., with memorial service following at 6 p.m. Interment will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Serving as pallbearers are: RJ Valencia, Carlos Marquez, Monico Salgado, Sam Sena Jr., James Sena Sr. and Fred Rodarte. Honorary pallbearers: Al Sena, Bill Sena, Eddie Sena, Christian Valencia, Donovan Marquez and Justin Salgado.
