Liebig, Gilbert Walter Jan. 5, 1921 - Dec. 9, 2015 Gilbert Walter Liebig, of Venice, FL, died on Wednesday, December 9 at his home. He was born on January 5, 1921 to Walter and Louise Liebig in Michigan City, IN. Gil enlisted in the
US Navy in 1942 and served as a signalman during
WWII aboard the USS Pastores until 1946. After the war, he began his long and loved career at Pullman Standard Railroad Company. It was there that he met & married the love of his life, Loraine Dalman in 1949. After only one year of marriage he was recalled to serve in Korea from 1950-52. Upon returning to his beloved wife and career, the arrival of their two daughters set their course in life. He worked as a draftsman, and later in sales at the company headquarters in Chicago. Gil was preceded in death by his dear Lory in 1986, his parents and two brothers, Fritz and Wally Liebig and his son-in-law, Barry Nixon. He is survived by his daughters, Peggy Nixon and Susan Brown, both of Venice, his grandchildren, Erik (Annie) Borling of Flagstaff, AZ, Karl Borling of Bloomington, IL, Laura (Kyle) Keikel of Lenexa, KA and Scott (Jessica) Meissner of Olathe, KA and his great-granddaughter Kinsley Meissner. Gil had a deep love of family and friends, a strong faith and a pride of service to his country and career. His life experiences and positive attitude endeared him to all who met him. Funeral services will be on Monday, December 28 at 11:30 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2705 N Tamiami Tr, Nokomis, FL 34275. Donations in Gil's name can be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, or to Tidewell Hospice of Venice. Toale Brothers Ewing Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
