Zigmund, Giles D.Giles D. Zigmund, age 79, a Manitowoc resident, passed away on September 27, 2013 following a long courageous battle with cancer at River's Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc. Giles was born on September 4, 1934, son of the late Felix and Angelina (Mrotek) Zigmund. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School and later graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1951. He entered the armed forces during the
Korean War, serving in the U.S.
Army from July 1957 to July 1959. Upon his discharge from the army, he worked in various production and supervisory positions at Mirro Aluminum Co., Whitehouse Milk Co., Kelvinator and Federal Mogul. He was a very avid player for local sports teams and received trophies and received trophies in softball, dartballbowling and golf. In the latter he was proud of the trophies he received having posted four holes-in-one. Giles married Louise Wilsmann on August 20, 1977. Their wedding day was joyously celebrated by family and friends. Their marriage was a commitment for Giles and Louise who went on to spend 36 years together. He was her faithful caregiver for the last decade.Giles is survived by his wife: Louise, of Manitowoc; two brothers and one sister-in-law: Leroy Zigmund and Jerry (Carol) Zigmund; a special cousin: Marvin Lishka; nieces and nephews: Randy (Marylee) Zigmund, Patti Zigmund (Doug) Floyd, Nancy Wilsmann; and one great niece: Carolyn Zigmund. He is also survived by one brother-in-law: Howard (Betty) Wilsmann and their children: Mary (Armin) Kaiser and Mark WilsmannGiles will be sadly missed by friends and relatives, but are comforted that he will be reunited with those who passed before him; his father and mother: Felix (Skates) and Angeline (Nellie) Zigmund; and his siblings: Edith Zigmund, Eugene Zigmund and Danny Zigmund; and one niece: Pam.Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev.
