Gladys E. Toler MT. PLEASANT Gladys E. Toler was called home by her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 while in hospice at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain in Marietta, Ga. Gladys was born on July 20, 1926 to John H. and Alma E. (nee: Hintz) Baker in Racine. She was a lifelong resident of Racine and a graduate of Horlick High School. Gladys had been employed as a Production Coordinator at In-Sink-Erator for 25 years, and was a member of the ISE Management Club and 10-Year Club. She also was active in the Advertising and Marketing Club of Southeastern Wisconsin. Gladys was also a faithful member of Bethania Evangelical Lutheran Church of Racine, serving with the Altar Guild for many years. In addition, she was a longtime volunteer for the Racine Theatre Guild, Wheaten Franciscan gift shop, Toys for Tots and Racine County board of elections. Gladys is survived by her three children: Katherine J. (Paul) Bodi of Canton, Ga., David W. (Eve) Whitehorn of Hauppauge, N.Y., and Brian P. Toler of Union Grove; seven grandchildren: Paul (Lori) Bodi of Woodstock, Ga., Sara Bodi of Canton, Ga., Emily Craddock of Winfield, Mo., Christopher Whitehorn of Hauppauge, N.Y., Cody and Jacob Toler of Racine and Casandra Heusdens of Archer, Fla.; and two great grandchildren: Ethan and Evan Craddock of Winfield, Mo. Gladys is also survived by one sister, Joyce Velzka of Prescott, Ariz., dear nieces and nephews Dale Ruth Raboldt, Clayton N. Baker and Karon Morse of Racine, Sharon Edwards of Aberdeen, Miss., Dianne Baker of Seminole, Fla., Janet Fox of Oshkosh, Wis., Judith Mihelich of Racine and John Velzka of Prescott, Ariz. She is also survived by cousins, other relatives and loving friends -- including childhood and lifelong friend Dorothy Engberg of Racine and special friends Phyllis Darge, Thea Erickson, Gerry Renpaul, Darrell Waits and Paul Larsen. Gladys was preceded in death by her loving husband Oscar D. Toler on Jan. 7, 1979, by her parents John H. Baker (in 1938) and Alma E. Lentz (1987), brothers Lester (Magdalene) Baker and Russell (Rogene) Baker and sister Margareth (John) Thuriot. Visitation will be Monday, May 5, 2014 at Bethania Lutheran Church, 4120 Wright Ave., Racine, at 10 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Her Christian burial at Graceland Cemetery will follow immediately. In lieu of flowers, it was Gladys request that any memorials be given in her name to the Bethania Lutheran Church Altar Guild.
