Gladys Poree' Handy died November 6, 2016 at the age of 95. She was born on December 07, 1920 in New Orleans, LA to the late Clarence J. and Theresa Brooks Poree'. Her stepfather, the late Philip P. Johnson willingly participated in caring for her. Wife of the late John Handy. For 95 years she resided in New Orleans, the city she loved. Gladys was educated in the Public School System and attended Xavier University for two years. She was a deaconess, dedicated sunday school student and an active member of the Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church. She was well known in the community for designing elaborate wedding dresses and carnival costumes. Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn H. Johnson; grandson, Jamar Anthony Johnson; brothers, Eugene Johnson, Philip Augurnel Johnson and Marvin Lionel Johnson (Nelva); sister and brother in law, Dorothy Pevy and Cephus Pevy; godchild, Gregory Gable. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, parents and stepfather, Gladys was also preceded in death by a brother, Wilbert Poree'.
