Glen Ernest Shumard was born on September 28, 1921 in Eureka, Kansas to Ernest and Lola Shumard, the second of 5 children. He passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011 in Brawley, CA at the age of 90. A memorial service will be held at Hems Brothers Mortuary on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 1 p.m. Glen moved to the Imperial Valley with his family in 1929 at the age of 8. He attended Silsbee Elementary School in Seeley, CA. After graduation from Central Union High School, he joined the military and served for two years, before moving back to the Imperial Valley to begin farming. His passion was farming. He was most happy when he was in his fields growing vegetables and grain. He farmed in the Imperial Valley for 73 years. Farming was not only his profession but his hobby, and his pride and joy. On January 26, 1949, Glen married Jeanne Blanche in Yuma, AZ. They were married for 62 years and had 5 children together. Glen is preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Shumard; his son, Richard Shumard, and his daughter, Gwen Shumard; mother, Lola Shumard; father, Ernest Shumard; brother, Gene Shumard; sisters, Vera Mae Shumard and Eva Heim; and grandson, Michael Shumard. Glen is survived by his wife, Jeanne Shumard of El Centro, CA; sons, Tom Shumard of San Luis Obispo, CA and Gary Shumard (Susie) of El Centro; daughter, Deborah Bostic (Darrel) of El Centro; daughter-in-law, Linda Shumard of El Centro; sister, Fern Stewart of Fallon, Nevada; ten grandchildren: Jason Shumard and Jeff Shumard, both of San Diego, Devon Bostic, Christopher Bostic, and Justin Bostic, all of El Centro, Sommer Shumard of Flagstaff, AZ, Dianna Shumard of El Centro, Glen Shumard of San Diego, Brandon Billingsley of San Francisco, and Kelsie Shumard of El Centro; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
