Gordon GriffithsApril 20, 1918 - April 18, ,2013Gordon Griffiths passed away peacefully on April 18, 2013 at the age of 94 two days before his 95th birthday. Now, he can celebrate his birthday with his sweet wife Mary. Gordon was born on April 20, 1918 in Malad, Idaho to Ida Palmer and Thomas Morgan Griffiths. He was the eldest of six children. On June 11, 1938 Gordon married Mary Ann John in Samaria, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS temple. For 32 years, Gordon owned and operated the OK Tire Shop in Malad, and for an additional 29 years he assisted his son, Rick. It was a place where friends gathered daily. Gordon also served on the City Council, Fair Board, American Legion and was an active member of the Lion's Club since 1958. He was also a World War II veteran. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gordon served in various positions. In the Malad valley, he is best known for his traditional birthday phone calls, which he started in the 70's as a bishop, "Today is a very special day for you." Gordon's other interests include: sports! playing, coaching and watching; owning cows and horses; gardening; growing and drying roses. Survived by his children: Marilyn (Russ) Gilbert of Tigard, Oregon; Kathy (Keith) Steindorf of Layton, Utah; Rod (Vickie) Griffiths of West Haven, Utah; Rick (Sharilee) Griffiths of Logan, Utah; Cindy (Lee) Maughan of Panaca, Nevada; 16 grandchildren; 43 great- grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; sisters Maria Jones of Orem, Utah and Ilean Corbridge of Malad, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, siblings, daughter-in-law, granddaughter and great-grandson. The family would like to thank the staff at Washington Terrace Rehabilitation Center for their loving care and support. The family suggests donation be made to the LDS Church General Missionary Fund. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 23, at 12 noon in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel, 1100 W 1250 N. Friends may visit with the family on Monday evening from 6-8 pm at the Horsley Funeral Home 132 W. 300 N. and on Tuesday at the funeral home prior to services from 10:30-11:30 am.
